Help for single mothers is available from many government and private aid programs for single mothers. Every program that helps the single mother, helps the child.  Children will define the future of our nation, and helping them is in the best interest of our nation and our nation’s policies.

Help for single mothers and aid for single mothers provides even full-time working single mothers with the help they need during financial or medical emergencies severe enough to send any singe mother into a state of emergency.

How the Department of Social Services Provides Help for Single Mothers

The first place to look for help for single mothers is the County Department of Social Services.  The DSS provides cash assistance for single mothers, such as a teen mother suffering from the disadvantages of being a single teen mother, but the cash assistance is not enough to climb out of poverty.

If you are working full-time there are still several single mother programs that can help with the challenges of being a single mother.  The DSS can refer you to agencies that provide aid for single mothers.  These helpful agencies may include the Community Action Organization, Rural Assistance, American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, food pantries, and local churches that provide help for single mothers.

Many of these programs qualify single mothers for help even if they earn 200% above poverty level.  Others have no income limits. You do not have to qualify for welfare to qualify for these programs of aid to single mothers.  The current Federal Poverty guideline for 2009 is $18,310 for a family of three.  Many programs exclude sources of income for qualification.

Heating assistance in the federal HEAP program has high guidelines for single mother qualification.  This program typically runs through winter and provides grants for heating costs. There are also programs that provide single mothers assistance with cooling expenses.

Single mother welfare programs also provide single mother subsidies in aid for single mothers in the form of child care and housing assistance to encourage stable employment.  Some states provide transportation aid for single mothers to stay employed.   Programs with help for single mothers come and go and are not advertised.  The only way to receive help is to ask for it.

Formula is prohibitively expense, and WIC can provide help for single mothers with young children by providing coupons for formula and cereal.   Food stamps also provides help for single mothers, and have high qualification limits.  Communities have a food pantry and clothing pantry.  Calling any local church can lead you to find help for single mothers and child necessities. 

State health insurance programs provide free and reduced cost health insurance for children.   Medicaid covers medical and dental expenses for mother and children. Medicaid also has transportation aid to medical appointments if the single mother does not have a car.
